September 02, 2009 Update

Well, folks, I'm up and running again.  I realize that it is well past early-June.  That was the date my surgeon predicted that I could resume most activities, and I did.  I think I started driving again with his blessing sometime in April, because I could smash the brake pedal as hard as necessary without pain.  However, climbing into the Champ was another matter altogether.  It's my right knee, for those who are interested, and I could easily put all my weight on it on the step, but once I had my left foot slid past the stick and shifted my weight to it and the two struts behind the windshield, the twisting required to get my right leg up and over the door sill was too painful.

Later, when I could accomplish that, I felt too vulnerable in the cockpit, and that if anything happened on the ground which required a hasty exit, I would not be able to get out in a hurry.  Some wag pilot among my friends did suggest that if necessary, I'd be surprised how quickly I could exit, even if head-first!

Anyway, now I feel completely comfortable back in the saddle and have in fact already flown the Champ about 6 hrs including 4+ hrs of dual-given.  So feel free to call me to schedule time again, and let's have some fun.

May 10, 2009 Update

As my current students know, operations have had to be suspended while I recover from a total knee replacement in March.  This update is for those who have found their way to this site from my web page at taildraggers.com or by word-of-mouth.  I expect to be operating again sometime in early June, and will announce that with a new Update.  Thank you for your interest.

March 24, 2008 Update

We're back up and running again this season at Finleyville, looking forward to lots of folks enjoying tailwheel training.  Hope to see you there soon.

March 07, 2008 Update

The Champ is at Herron having it's Annual.  It should be back in service next week sometime (after March 10).

April 15, 2007 Update

The airplane is up and running again after a year and a half of being out of commission.  Little Blue is now good as new and loves to be flown.  I have been flying her since Feb. 1, 2007, weather permitting (not often), and wanted to "shake her down" over a period of time before publishing this news.  Note the new operations base on the home page.
